Y-12 National Security Complex

In 2007, Phoenix was awarded the contract to construct two, 2,000,000-gallon Composite Elevated Tanks (CET) for the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN, in partnership with URS (formerly Washington Group International). The project afforded Phoenix the opportunity to showcase full capabilities in the CET market, adhering to stringent quality assurance and quality control measures as well as the intensive security demanded by a project of this magnitude.

Both tanks were completed on time and solidified Phoenix’s reputation for total construction capabilities for large Composite Elevated Tank on the most demanding stage. They have been online since 2010, proudly serving a facility largely responsible for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Nuclear Security Enterprise.

City of Sugar Land

Just southwest of Sugar Land, TX, near the Brazos River, Phoenix constructed a 2,000,000-gallon Composite Elevated Tank (CET) for the City of Sugar Land, TX. Illuminated at night by logo lighting, the tank stands proudly overlooking passers-by along Interstate 69. The tank wears the City logo in contrasting blue on a white background against the smooth concrete finish of the support pedestal. Coming up over the Brazos River levee lies a concrete approach through a gate and surrounding decorative fence.

The tank is built upon auger-cast piles topped by a pile cap foundation and a 52 ft. diameter concrete pedestal supporting the steel container. The tank features a hydrodynamic mixing system incorporated into the piping system. Additionally, the pedestal contains a second structural floor accessed by a spiral staircase from the base of the tank and an internal hoist for raising and lowering storage from floor to floor.

City of Newton

Newton, KS, is well known for its local artwork featuring clouds against a blue sky. It was only fitting that the water tower reflects this unique look as well. Phoenix worked with the owner and consulting engineer to modify the design and dimensions of our standard 500,000-gallon Composite Elevated Tank’s head range and pedestal diameter to make the tank fit the artwork and truly make this tank “one of a kind.”

Phoenix worked very closely with the template to ensure the cloud scene was properly dimensioned and applied by our own crews. This unique tank went on to receive the coveted title of “Tank of the Year” from Tnemec and proudly serves the City of Newton.

San Leon M.U.D

Working closely with a client to establish a truly remarkable project sets great contractors apart from the competition. So, when the local art community in San Leon decided they wanted to not only design their own artwork but also apply it, Phoenix worked with them to make it possible. The construction schedule had to be adapted “on the fly,” but this flexibility gave the owner a truly unique opportunity to put their own signature on their investment.

The 1,000,000-gallon Composite Elevated Tank overlooks scenic Galveston Bay and is built upon auger-cast piles topped by a pile cap foundation and a 40 ft. diameter concrete support pedestal supporting the steel container. Phoenix has designed plans for a second floor and continues to work with the owner on the future of this project.

City of Cleburne

Dating back to 2009, Phoenix has developed a close relationship with the City of Cleburne, TX. Beginning with the successful installation of the Nolan River Road back-wash tank, Phoenix designed and installed a small (300,000-gallon) Composite Elevated Tank (CET) to suit a non-traditional use for a tank of this style.

Next, Phoenix constructed the 1,000,000-gallon Rose Avenue CET, proudly displaying the City logo as well as the high school’s yellow jacket mascot. Immediately after placing the tank into service, Phoenix demolished an existing 500,000-gallon multi-column tank.

In 2016, Phoenix commissioned the 1,000,000-gallon Mulberry Street CET, also proudly displaying the City logo which is illuminated at night with logo lighting. The tank is also equipped with a solenoid-operated, multi-point sampling system. After the successful commissioning of the new tank, Phoenix demolished the existing 1,000,000-gallon multi-column tank.

Phoenix is proud to have served the City of Cleburne over the last several years and to have grown with them as their needs have changed for new and improved elevated water storage.
